Punk out your wardrobe with the help of Cassie Kogler, the 23-year-old design whiz behind New York Couture. “The spring collection is a mix between Victorian elegance and crazy 80s boombox. That’s A.D.D. right there!” laughs Kogler. Sick of mainstream clothing, the alternative fashionista taught herself to sew in between study sessions at Pace University. When friends and stores started requesting the hand-made creations she boldly wore around the city, New York Couture was born. The downtown scene, drag queens and club kids serve as her inspiration, in addition to the experimental singer Bjork. “She always takes chances and is very adventurous,” says Kogler. One thing’s for sure: on the stage or on the street, it’s clear that these in-your-face designs will turn heads.
